ACI Certified Concrete Inspector – (as needed)
Location: Pittsburgh, PA & Vienna, OH
Schedule: As Needed (Project-Based)
Employment Type: Part-Time / As Needed
Compensation: $30 - $40 per hour, depending on experience and qualifications. Per diem and travel reimbursement may be available for qualifying projects.
About the Position
HRV Conformance Verification Associates, Inc. is seeking experienced ACI Certified Concrete Inspectors to support as-needed projects in the Greater Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and Vienna, Ohio areas.
This position will perform quality assurance inspection and testing of concrete to verify that materials and construction activities comply with project specifications, applicable standards, and client requirements. Assignments will vary based on project needs and may include precast/prestressed concrete facilities and active construction projects.
This is an as-needed, project-based position, and hours will vary depending on project availability and client requirements. Candidates should be located within reasonable commuting distance of Pittsburgh, PA or Vienna, OH and available to travel to project locations as assignments become available.
Primary Responsibilities
Concrete Inspection & Testing (80%)
- Perform quality assurance inspection and testing of concrete in accordance with project specifications and applicable standards
- Perform field testing of fresh concrete including slump, air content, and temperature
- Observe concrete placement activities and verify compliance with project requirements
- Inspect reinforcing steel, embedded items, dimensions, and other components as required
- Perform inspections of precast and prestressed concrete fabrication when assigned
- Review applicable quality control documentation and concrete testing results
- Identify and document nonconforming work or materials
- Communicate inspection findings with contractors, plant personnel, project managers, and clients as required
- Maintain inspection and testing equipment in accordance with applicable requirements
- Promote and maintain safe work practices at project sites and fabrication facilities
Project Documentation & Administrative Responsibilities (20%)
- Prepare and submit accurate daily and/or weekly inspection reports documenting work performed, inspection findings, testing results, and compliance with project specifications
- Maintain organized inspection records, photographs, and supporting project documentation
- Submit timesheets and expense reports accurately and on time in accordance with company procedures
- Communicate project status, inspection findings, and potential issues to the Project Manager
- Assist with project documentation and closeout activities as required
Minimum Qualifications
- Current ACI Concrete Field Testing Technician – Grade I Certification
- Experience performing concrete inspection and testing
- Ability to perform fresh concrete testing including slump, air content, and temperature
- Experience with precast and/or prestressed concrete inspection
- Ability to read and interpret project specifications and applicable construction documents
- Ability to prepare accurate and detailed inspection reports
- Basic proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, email, and internet-based applications
- Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record
- Authorized to work in the United States
- Ability to travel to project locations as assignments become available
Preferred Qualifications
- Current PCI Level II or Level III Certification (big plus but not required)
- Experience inspecting precast and prestressed concrete fabrication
- Experience working in precast concrete production facilities
- Experience with transportation, bridge, or other infrastructure projects
- Experience working on state DOT or other government projects
- Additional concrete inspection or testing certifications
- Ability to work independently while maintaining positive working relationships with contractors, plant personnel, project managers, and clients
Physical Requirements
- Ability to climb, balance, kneel, crouch, reach, walk, grasp, stand, communicate, and perform other physical activities required to conduct inspections
- Ability to stand for extended periods of time
- Ability to occasionally lift or exert up to 20 pounds and frequently lift or exert up to 10 pounds
- Visual ability necessary to perform inspections, including color perception, depth perception, and field of vision
- Ability to work safely in active construction and precast/prestressed concrete environments
